Ghuisarnath Dham: Shiva Temple in Pratapgarh
Hello friends! I have lived in Pratapgarh my whole life. Today, I want to tell you all about a very special place right near my home. It is called Ghuisarnath Dham. You might also hear people call it Ghushmeshwarnath Dham. If you ever come to our part of Uttar Pradesh in the Pratapgarh district, this is the one place you absolutely must visit. Let me share why this temple means so much to us, how you can get here, and what fun things you can do and eat.
Why Ghuisarnath Dham is So Important for Pratapgarhis
For everyone living around here, Ghuisarnath Dham is not just a regular temple. It is a highly sacred place dedicated to Lord Shiva. In Hindu holy books, there is a mention of twelve very special Shiva temples called Jyotirlingas. Many people believe that this temple is one of those twelve holy spots.
The temple sits right on the bank of a beautiful river called the Sai River. The view here is very peaceful, and the wind blowing from the river makes the whole place feel calm. Recently a statue of Lord Shiva was also placed in the river at some height which looks very nice when passing by the bridge nearby.
The Peaceful Inner Area of Baba Ghuisarnath Dham
There is an old story that local people tell about the temple. Long ago, there was a man named Ghuisar Yadav who lived here. He did not care much about God at first. But one day, Lord Shiva appeared to him right at this spot. After that day, Ghuisar became a big believer, and the place was named Ghuisarnath to honor him.
There is another story about a holy woman named Ghushma whose son was saved by Lord Shiva. Because of her deep love for God, Lord Shiva stayed here forever. When you look at the holy stone, the Shivling, inside the temple, you can still see marks that people believe came from that old miracle.
How to Reach Ghuisarnath from Lalganj Ajhara and Atheha
Since I live in Pratapgarh I reach here via Lalganj Ajhara. It is not far at all.
From Lalganj Ajhara:
The distance from the main Lalganj town to Ghuisarnath Dham is only about 9 kilometers. The road is good and easy to drive on. You can easily take a local auto-rickshaw or a Vikram. It takes just 15 to 20 minutes. If you have your own vehicle, it is a straight and simple drive.
From Atheha:
The distance is around 11 to 12 kilometers. Take the main Atheha-Ghuisarnath road. Local shared autos are easily available. The drive takes about 25 minutes through beautiful green fields and small villages.
Tuesday Market and the Big Malmas Mela
Every single Tuesday, a big local market is held right near the temple grounds. People from nearby villages come here to buy fresh vegetables, clay toys, bangles, clothes, and household items. The market feels like a weekly festival.
The biggest event is the Malmas Mela, which happens once every three years. Lakhs of devotees come from far states like Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. They take a holy dip in the Sai River and offer water to Lord Shiva. The area fills with swings, Ferris wheels, circus tents, and hundreds of shops.
Parking Facility at Ghuisarnath Dham
There is a dedicated paid parking area near the temple, which is especially useful on busy days like Tuesdays or during festivals. On normal days, you can take your vehicle much closer to the temple.
You Must Try the Special Chaat!
You cannot leave Ghuisarnath Dham without eating the local chaat! Right outside the temple, small food stalls serve delicious chaat made on huge iron tawas.
They mash boiled potatoes, fry them crispy, add boiled white peas, secret spices, tangy tamarind chutney, and green mint chutney. Served hot in dried leaf bowls (donas), it’s spicy, sour, sweet, and absolutely addictive!
